Italy can be addressed as the homeland of dragées and confits - confetti in the Italian language - In fact, according to some sources, the ancient Romans used some kind of confetti, obtained at the time by wrapping almonds with a mixture of honey and flour,  to celebrate births and weddings.

It is considered a kind of refined and valuable bite-sized candy to eat during important occasions and is often adorned and packaged with elegant decorations. It is a symbol of luck and prosperity.

The dragees are produced using big rotating copper boilers, where almonds are mixed with sugary solutions which, by evaporating, create thin layers around almonds, along with various cyclic wetting and drying stages.

Traditionally confetti is sugar-coated almonds, but many varieties with pistachios, hazelnuts or chocolate produced.

In Italy, there are many workshops that produce various types of Jordan almonds. Among them, remarkable the ancient Mucci factory of Andria, in Puglia, in fact, it has provided the confetti for the wedding of prince Umberto di Savoia with princess Maria Jose of Belgium in 1930.
